Ohio Heritage Conference Wrestling History

The Ohio Heritage Conference was founded in 2001.  All of the *original charter schools that formed the OHC are still members today.  In 2017, the OHC expanded to include Greenon and Fairbanks.  Wrestlers competed for the first time in the OHC during the 2001-2002 wrestling season.

When the OHC formed, Southeastern and Cedarville did not sponsor wrestling programs.  Therefore, only six teams originally competed for the league title.  After the 2003-2004 season, Catholic Central dropped their program but for the 2010-2011 season, they reinstated wrestling as a varsity sport. Unfortunately, for the 2016-2017 season, their program has been dropped again.  Southeastern followed by adding wrestling for the 2012-2013 season.  Currently Cedarville and Catholic Central is the only OHC School without a wrestling team.

From the 2001-02 season through the 2005-06 season, the OHC Team Champions were determined by using dual meets throughout the season and the All-OHC First and Second Team wrestlers were determined through a coach’s vote.  In the 2006-07 season, the OHC hosted the first Ohio Heritage Conference Wrestling Tournament at Greeneview High School.

Currently, Mechanicsburg leads with eleven OHC Team Titles and Northeastern is second with four titles.  210 Individual OHC Champions have been crowned: 77 from Mechanicsburg, 45 from Greeneview, 31 from West Liberty-Salem, 25 from Northeastern, 17 from Triad, 11 from Catholic Central, and 4 from Southeastern.

There have been only seven 4x First Team All-OHC wrestlers: Branden Pike (GV), Travis Wooten (WLS), Blaine Klaus (MB), Adam Salyers (MB), Cody Rodgers (MB), Austin Reese (MB), and Armani Robinson (GV).  This year Alex Rhine (MB) and Kaleb Romero (MB) are looking to join that group.

Greeneview and Mechanicsburg have had at least one First Team All-OHC wrestler every year.

Since the inception of the Ohio Heritage Conference, OHC wrestlers have compiled:

  • 91 Individual Sectional Champions

  • 34 Individual District Champions

  • 122 State Qualifiers

  • 71 State Place Winners

  • 16 State Finalists

  • 8 State Champions  -- Levi Wyant–Triad (2002 & 2003), Bryce Baker-Mechanicsburg (2009), Logan Lacure-Greeneview (2014), and Austin Reese-Mechanicsburg (2014), and Kaleb Romero–Mechanicsburg  (2014, 2015, & 2016)
