OHC Golf Teams Top the Leaderboard on Tuesday
OHC boys golf teams enjoyed another successful showing at sectional tournaments Tuesday. Seven teams – Catholic Central, Cedarville, Fairbanks, Greenon, Northeastern, Southeastern and West Liberty-Salem – and three individuals advanced to next week’s district tournaments.
In Division III, five teams advanced to play Oct. 4 in the Southwest District tournament at Glenview Golf Course in Cincinnati. The top three teams in the 12-team field along with the top three individuals not on qualifying teams will advance to state.
Catholic Central finished second at the Turtle Creek sectional in Greenville with a 354. Jacob Woeber led the Irish with an 83 and was third overall. Colin Kelly added 88, Jack Brougher 91 and Colin Hanna 92.
Cedarville placed third with a score of 351 in the Walden Ponds sectional in Hamilton to advance to districts for the first time since 2005. Noah Myers shot 78 to lead the Indians and was fifth overall. Adam Wood followed with an 83, Jate Bradley 87 and Caleb Smith 103.
Northeastern was third at Turtle Creek with a 373. The Jets were led by Josh Calhoun’s 87 and Jacob Calhoun’s 88. Eli Justice added 95 and Dylan Roberts 103.
Southeastern was fourth at Walden Ponds with a 359 to advance for the second time in three years. OHC South player of the year Avery Green was medalist runner-up with a 72. Tray Thompson added an 86, Tyler Blankenship 98 and Chase Billet 103.
West Liberty-Salem grabbed the fourth and final spot at Turtle Creek with a 378. Max Eggleston’s 89 and Tyler Gardner’s 90 led the Tigers. Patrick Harr added 98 and Kenny Harr 101.
Mechanicsburg senior Caleb Westfall, the OHC North player of the year, shot 70 to win medalist honors at the Division III sectional at Beechwood in Arcanum. He advances to play at Glenview along with teammate Jack Shoemaker who shot 80.
In Division II, Greenon fired a 342 to win the Reid Park sectional. Dylan Schetter led the Knights with a 79 and was third overall. He was followed by Beau Blase at 84, Zach Knauer at 89 and Ian Anderson at 90.
Greeneview freshman Mason Witt was runner-up medalist at Reid with a 74 to also advance in Division II.
Greenon and Witt will play Oct. 5 in the Southwest District tournament at Beavercreek Golf Club.
Fairbanks shot 333 to place second in a Central District Division III sectional at Darby Creek in Marysville. Travis Brake led Fairbanks with an 81 and was followed closely by Justin Brackenridge at 83, Aidan Wilson at 84 and Seth Payne at 85. Fairbanks will play Oct. 4 in the Central District tournament at Denison Golf Club.
